Now we’re officially into spring hopefully, this means some warmer weather is imminent and the chance to don our summer clothes. However, after a season of smothering our bodies in warm winter clothes and keeping cosy with the central heating our skin may need some attention before we bare all.

Follow our skin care tips to get your skin summer ready.

10 Skin Care Tips

1. Protect - wear sunscreen (at least SPF 15) every day to protect your skin from sun damage.

2. Moisturise – apply moisturising lotion daily, ideally after bathing to seal in the moisture that your skin has just absorbed. Massage the moisturiser into your skin in a circular motion to aid circulation.

3. Exfoliate – remove dead, complexion-dulling skin cells and improve circulation with a once a week body exfoliation.

4. Minimise your beauty regime – overloading your skin with too many beauty products can make it irritated and result in rashes and spots. Keep your regime simple and pared down.

5. Rest - try to sleep at least eight hours every night. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body releases excess amounts of the stress hormone cortisol which can break down collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm and plump.

6. Exercise - a good workout helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to your skin.

7. Drink water – hydrate your skin from the inside by drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day.

8. Quit smoking – smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow and depletes the skin of essential oxygen and nutrients.

9. Eat well - eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. A diet rich in vitamin C and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates can help keep skin looking younger.

10. Fake it – create a sun-kissed glow with fake body tan rather than subjecting your body to harmful and skin damaging UV rays.
